Landscape is not simply what we see, but a way of seeing: we see it with our eyes but interpret it with our mind and ascribe values to landscape for intangible–spiritual–reasons.
~ Ken Taylor

Though admittedly melancholic, The Yard paintings skirt sentimentality. There is a palpable and disturbing absence imbedded within these suburban moments suggesting all is not what it seems. These pictures, while familiar, provide no clear narratives. As a result viewers are involved directly with these scenes, searching their own memories for common experiences.
